Google’s CAPTCHA Busted By Spammers

Friday, February 29th, 2008

If you are a Gmail user you have probably noticed that your account has begun to receive big volumenes of Spam.

The code CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) has been harmed, which allows the massive creation of fictitious accounts of Gmail, used mainly to distribute Spam.

After code CAPTCHA was harmed recently the attacks against the biggest service of free email of the world have increased in intensity.

The method initially was proven by Hotmail, and now it is the turn of Google.

The Websense Consultants have published a screenshot that shows the form in which Spam distributers manage automatically the system to create email accounts in the system. Until now, Gmail has been considered like a Spam free service, but the situation could change in a moment.

The Spam distributors have apparently eluded the CAPTCHA system protection, a principle that should make sure that the beginnings of sessions are made by humans and not by machines. This becomes possible when asking for itself the user to write some displayed alphanumeric combinations in screen like graphs.

SpinVox Sends Voice Messages As Emails

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Now the BlackBerry users can receive through email voice messages turned into text directly in their devices, allowing to see them who has called, what message was left and with the option answer with a click.

SpinVox has launched their new plug-in developed for BlackBerry. The inclusion of the SpinVox technology in the BlackBerry contributes to the configuration and advantages of email and improves the service for the BlackBerry users.

An important benefit that offers Spinvox to BlackBerry is the direct entailment of the number of the incoming calls with the list of directions, presenting and displaying the name of the contact that has called and, therefore, giving the opportunity to be responsible directly for electronic mail.

“The BlackBerry’s email favors the enterprise efficiency and the personal productivity”, affirms Christina Domecq, advisor delegated and cofounding of SpinVox. “If to this mixture we add the services of SpinVox, these benefits reach a superior level. They eliminate the necessity to call to the mailbox and to verify the voice messages, and make the recovery easier of the voice messages in email format that is what BlackBerry users like “.

Another Big Mistake By Microsoft!

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Well, I now that I have lately been posting a lot about Microsoft and their new SP1 for Windows Vista. SP1 caused a lot of  expectations in many people because of the supposed enhancements that it will make to the Windows Vista operating system.

Effectively, there are some error that are corrected and many enhancements made, my PC even starts faster, transfer and copy files faster, it even changes the kernel version to an updated version, a major change for an operating system, but Microsoft recently made a big mistake… some of the applications that loaded at the start up are blocked!

Yes, that’s right! It has been reported that some critical third party applications are blocked when Windows Vista starts up.

Some of the applications blocked during the start-up are:

  • BitDefender AntiVirus or Internet Security
  • Fujitsu Shock Sensor
  • Jiangmin KV Antivirus
  • Trend Micro Internet Security
  • Zone Alarm Security Suite

There are also some applications that will definitely not run after the SP1 is installed:

  • Iron Speed Designer
  • Xheo Licensing
  • Free Allegiance

 And some apps that will lose functionality are:

  • NYT Reader
  • Rising Personal Firewall
  • Novell ZCM Agent

Microsoft made their official publication on Friday February 22th. You may find additional information and support in this link.

To make it worst… the errors doesn’t ends there… there are more! Some people have been reporting an endless rebooting problem when they are installing SP1.  The message that appears looks like this:

“Configuring updates stage 3 of 3. 0% complete”

After you receive this message, the computer reverts to the screen that displays the same message. Additionally, the update is not installed successfully, and the computer restarts.

To solve this problem Microsoft suggests:

  1. Start Windows Vista by using the Windows installation media, and then select the “Repair your computer” option.
  2. Start the computer in Safe Mode, and then use the Repair or System Restore feature.
  3. Rename the “Pending.xml” file, and then edit the registry.

 You can find more information on how to solve this issue here.

Now with all these issues occasioned with the Service Pack 1, and the original issues found in Windows Vista I make myself these questions: Why is Microsoft working in Windows 7 if they can’t really fix and make their OS stable? Did they made all the necessary test to launch Windows Vista and later their SP1? Does Microsoft really knows what they are doing? Does Microsoft should continue creating operating systems?

What do you think about this?

Since the package is a little bit big, I split it into five parts; you will need Winrar in order to unrar and install it. This Service Pack can be installed on English, Japanese, Spanish, French and German based operating systems. When Microsoft officially release this SP1 it will be smaller since it will be available through the Windows Update system and it will automatically detect you system language.

Are Computers Males Or Females?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I know that this is a feminism joke, but it make laugh so I wanted to share it…

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike

- English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
- “House” for instance, is feminine: “la casa.”
- “Pencil,” however, is masculine: “el lapiz.”

A student asked, “What gender is ‘computer’?”

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether “computer” should be a masculine or a feminine noun.

Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men’s group decided that “computer” should definitely be of the feminine gender (”la computadora”), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine (”el computador”), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

For you… who won?
