13 New Functions For Gmail Users

Google is inviting Gmail users to test 13 new features that is considering adding to its mail service on the Web.

Available through the “laboratory” in the properties of Gmail, the service includes a tool for quick link that allows users mark as favourites specific messages, the ease of emoticons to assign mouse for several actions and customizable shortcuts on the keyboard. The functions most popular then will become standard within the Gmail.

“There are some things here that we think are probably bad ideas,” says Gmail product manager, Keith Coleman, specifically with respect to a game of snakes.

“It’s something we never do.”

Currently only Google engineers can create code for the functions “laboratory”. However, the functions, the company hopes that developers are able to build >Gmail tools.

“Once the code is written and running for the most part, will be the construction of a new product that comes to users (via the function laboratory),” says Coleman.

“We would like to reach a point where most people can build on it. That requires something with a different level of interface, “Coleman believes.

“We are interested in making it possible for users and for us to achieve a rapid product, is something that we’re interested.”
