Starting July Microsoft’s operating system, Windows XP, officially will no longer be available.

Despite complaints from thousands of users seeking to Microsoft not leave aside its previous operating system, the company has been inflexible and maintains that the date set in its initial timetable.

However, the program will continue to be available in mini portables, as the EEE PC from Asus, which carries integrated optionally a special version of this operating system until June 2010.

Sellers can only distribute it to computers that have Windows XP installed on them prior to June 30.

The customer service will continue until 2009, and technical support not be completed until 2014.

Like I, or anyone else for that matter, will quit using XP just because it ‘doesn’t exist’ ?

    Is it the kool-aid ?
    the Redmond water supply ?
    The Twinkies ?

I bet it would be profitable for people and stores to stock up on a few copies. I’m not a Windows user, but I’m sure many people would kill to avoid Vista, especially businesspeople.

Ever since service pack 1 Vista really has grown on me. It’s at least better than xp, maybe not ubuntu but xp for sure.

Microsoft not making Windows XP available to purchase won’t stop people from purchasing it or obtaining it in other ways. So, this isn’t really going to be the end of the world. I doublt many people rely on Microsoft support, either, these days.

Only in the virtual world would a company cease to provide a product which still has _profitable demand_. It’s not like it costs them anything ( tangible ) to make a copy of Windows XP.

I think this might be one of their 5 steps plans to promote piracy :P
